Dry Needling

At The Odiham Clinic, our Osteopaths are all qualified to practice Dry Needling.

Dry Needling can be used to successfully treat painful conditions including headaches, backache and muscular pain. We will discuss this with you if we think it will help treat your condition. While traditional Acupuncture has been practised in China for thousands of years, this technique is a western modern day adaptation of Acupuncture based on anatomy. Your therapist will insert needles into areas of painful spasm in muscles known as trigger points. This stimulates touch receptor nerves in the body, which in turn desensitise the trigger points.

Nothing to worry about

If you are not familiar with this technique, we will discuss everything carefully with you beforehand. As the needles used in Dry Needling are much finer than those used for injections, only a slight prick may be felt as the needle goes through the skin. When the needle reaches the desired point below the surface of the skin, there is another sensation often described as tingling or a dull ache. It is rarely described as painful and lasts only one or two seconds.
